On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, here is a bhajan dedicated to Lord Shiva. The first verse and the tune, are from a well known bhajan sung by Hariharan. The second and third verses are my own. The line 'Om Namah Shivay' in the bhajan lends itself beautifully to group singing. I have tried this with my Bal Vihar students, with some lead singers singing two lines and then the whole group joining in for the chorus. It sounds very calm and soothing.
सुबह सुबह ले शिव का नाम
कर ले बन्दे यह शुभ काम
chorus: ओम नमः शिवाय, ओम नमः शिवाय!
दिन भर धार ले शिव का ध्यान
पूरे होंगे सारे काम
chorus: ओम नमः शिवाय, ओम नमः शिवाय!
सोने से पहले ले शिव का नाम
होगा तेरा ही कल्याण
chorus: ओम नमः शिवाय, ओम नमः शिवाय!
